This photo was taken on the north side of the Lea County Courthouse in 1984. The near car is a Jaguar XJ with a 1984 license plate. The plate is of the style issued from about 1979 through 1982, suggesting the the registration had been renewed for at least two years, if not longer.  Courtesy David L. Minton

This photograph, dated October 1984, shows a scene at one of the northern New Mexico Pueblos. The car at near left is a Chrysler Caravan with a Minnesota plate, and the one at near right is an AMC. The plate on it is a 1977 base plate (which still carried the embossed “72” in the lower left corner) with a 1984 sticker. The yellow plate seen between those two cars is a 1982 base plate with a 1984 sticker. Courtesy Rick Holben.
